Practical help to
grow at home.

Choose a setup you can enjoy growing in, with crops, equipment and care that fit your space, budget and everyday life.

Discuss your home-growing project

Fresh herbs for cooking, a first vegetable garden, or the satisfaction of learning to grow your own food: the starting point is what you want from it. You may have a balcony, backyard, spare room, garage or small greenhouse and still be deciding what could work there.

Sustainabite helps you make those choices and put them into practice. We can plan a manageable setup, help source and set up equipment, teach crop-care routines or work through a problem in a space you already use.

Growing experience, applied to your space

The setup matters.
So does looking after it.

We built and operate our farm in Surrey, growing basil and supplying produce to retail customers. Our work connects setup and equipment with crop care, harvest, packaging and delivery. It gives us a practical understanding of the tasks that keep a growing space in use.

For a home project, that perspective comes down to everyday questions: can you reach the plants, water and clean the setup comfortably, recognize when something changes, and keep up with the routine?

Start with the home you have

What would fit here?

A useful plan starts with the space and the person who will care for it. We look at available light, usable area, water access and growing conditions alongside what you like to eat, how much you want to spend and the time you have.

That conversation can compare containers or beds, a small greenhouse, or a suitable indoor soil-based or hydroponic setup. We consider the season, access for everyday care, and what equipment or space you already have. The aim is to choose a practical first stage rather than fill every available corner.

For an indoor room or garage, lighting, temperature, airflow, humidity and water handling need to work together. Outdoors, the light, exposure, season and watering arrangement shape the choice. These are part of selecting the setup, not details to discover after buying it.

Illustrative small-space planning guide

Different spaces. Different starting questions.

These examples show what we compare with you, rather than a recommendation for an unassessed home.

Balcony or patio

Where do the light and your daily routine meet?

Compare a few accessible containers with the available sunlight, exposure, watering access and space to move.

Plan around: crop choice, container size, drainage and a manageable watering routine.

Backyard or small greenhouse

What can you grow and look after through the season?

Compare beds, containers or the greenhouse you have, with room for planting, care and harvest.

Plan around: seasonal crops, irrigation, access and ventilation where relevant.

Room or garage

Can the conditions support the crops you want?

Compare a compact growing area with the light, temperature, airflow, water handling and power it would need.

Plan around: layout, lighting, soil-based or hydroponic options, cleaning and running costs.

The useful result: a short list of suitable options, the requirements of each and a clear next step for your space.

From choosing to doing

Get help with the parts
you want to get right.

Some home growers need a clear recommendation before buying. Others want design and setup help, practical instruction or support with their next growing cycle. We agree the work around what you need.

Crops & a growing plan

Grow things you will want to use.

We can help choose crops around your interests, conditions and experience, whether you are thinking about herbs, leafy greens, vegetables or another crop. The plan considers how plants get started, how much room they need, when to plant and harvest, and the care involved.

A few well-chosen crops can make a useful first project. For an existing garden, we can organize seasonal planting, propagation and successive plantings around what you want to harvest and the space available.

Something to work from: a crop shortlist and planting or care plan that tells you what to start, where it will go and what to do next.

Layout, equipment & budget

Know what you need
before you buy.

We can review a proposed layout, kit or equipment list and help compare the options against your growing goal. Depending on the setup, that may include containers, growing media, irrigation, lights, racks, hydroponic components or monitoring equipment. We also consider access for planting, cleaning and harvesting.

The comparison can separate the initial setup from recurring supplies, water, power and maintenance. We can help define purchasing requirements and source appropriate equipment, working with what you already own where it fits. You can use the plan to organize your own build or include practical setup help in the quote.

Something to decide with: layout or design-review notes, an equipment comparison or a prioritized shopping list connected to your space and budget.

Build, setup & first crop

Put the chosen approach
into use.

When you are ready, the scope can include sourcing, coordinating the setup, agreed assembly and installation tasks, startup checks and hands-on help preparing the first crop. We connect the physical arrangement with how you will reach, water, clean and maintain it.

For a hydroponic setup, this can include getting familiar with the water and nutrient routine, irrigation and the observations needed to run it. For a container or bed project, the focus may be preparing the growing area, planting and learning the watering routine. The quote sets out equipment purchases, practical tasks and any supplier or specialist work.

Help putting it into practice: an agreed setup sequence, practical startup work and a clear handover of the tasks you will repeat.

Learning & everyday care

Feel more confident
caring for your plants.

Practical instruction can cover sowing or propagation, transplanting, watering, nutrient care where relevant, observing growing conditions, cleaning and harvesting. We can explain the reason behind a task and help you practise it with the chosen setup.

A simple care guide can separate regular checks from occasional tasks and show what to note when a plant or system changes. We can also plan for days away and agree continuing help to review progress, answer growing questions or prepare the next planting.

Something to use every week: a crop-care guide, a manageable task schedule and practical training, with any later review or coaching agreed in the scope.

Already growing at home?

Work through the problem
in the setup you have.

Perhaps seedlings keep struggling, plants are growing unevenly, or a system takes more attention than you expected. You may want to understand the cause before buying another light, changing nutrients or starting again.

We can review the crop, growing conditions, equipment and routine together. Photographs, notes about watering or nutrient use, and observations of light and temperature can help identify what to examine next. The work can focus on a recurring crop problem, an awkward layout or a particular part of the care routine.

The useful next step may be a change to the routine, a targeted equipment adjustment or a small trial with clear observations. Where further testing or specialist input is needed, we identify that as part of the next steps. Agreed follow-up can review how the change is working and what to do for the next cycle.

Start with what is happening now and what you have already tried. You do not need a complete equipment list to enquire.

A scope that fits the help you need

One question, a new setup
or help as you learn.

A focused call or written assessment can help you make a decision. A larger project may combine a crop and layout plan with sourcing, practical setup and training. Continuing support can be agreed around later crop-care questions or the next stage of the project.

Tell us your goal, general location and the space or problem you have. We review those details to establish a suitable scope and quote, including what you will receive, the practical work, delivery format and responsibilities. Your equipment budget and the consulting fee are considered separately.

Growing for customers?

Small space.
Business ambitions.

Before you enquire

A few useful
questions.

Can you help a beginner with a very small space?

Yes. A balcony, a few containers or a compact growing area can be a useful starting point. We can help you choose a manageable approach and learn the care it needs. Tell us about the space and what interests you, even if the crop or budget is still undecided.

Do I need hydroponics or an indoor growing system?

No. We compare the approach with your space, conditions, season and goals. Containers, beds or an existing greenhouse may fit; an indoor or hydroponic setup is another option where the conditions and care requirements make sense.

Can you work with equipment I already have?

Yes. We can review an existing kit, lights, irrigation or other equipment and help with setup, crop choices, practical training or troubleshooting. Share what you have and the question you want to resolve.

What if I rent or live in a condo?

We can consider a setup around the space available to you. Before practical changes, confirm the relevant landlord or strata permissions, including water handling and any restrictions on the chosen space. We can help identify the setup details you need to discuss.

What can you help with remotely?

Crop and setup choices, layout or equipment reviews, care routines and some troubleshooting can begin with a call and clear information from you. We agree whether photographs, measurements or further checks are needed, and whether any part would be better handled in person.

How much does the help cost?

Contact for a quote. A focused question, a design and setup project, and continuing help involve different amounts of work. We agree the scope, delivery and fee before starting, with equipment, supplies and travel identified where relevant.
